Default Airport checks are stepped up

PASSENGERS from Bahrain will have to undergo extra security screening for liquids, gels and aerosols at the airport, starting in September.
The new measures will be imposed effective from September 30.
This is in response to security guidelines issued by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), said Civil Aviation Affairs (CAA) Assistant Under Secretary for Aviation Services Ahmed Nemat Ali.
"ICAO issued such a directive on December 11, 2006, following the crisis experienced by airports in UK last summer," he told the GDN.
"All international passengers, departing from Bahrain or transiting (changing planes) on commercial flights (including charter flights) at Bahrain International Airport will be affected by the new regulations."
Mr Ali said Bahrain decided to implement the regulations after the peak summer months, on September 30.
"This is to minimise any inconvenience to passengers during the peak travel period when the airport is busy and crowded," he added.
Starting September 30, all liquids, gels or aerosols containers of not more than 100ml each taken from home shall be required to be carried in one standard re-sealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity not exceeding one litre.
The plastic bag must be presented separately from the hand luggage and other items such as coats, jackets or lap-tops at the x-ray checkpoint.
Also, all liquids, gels or aerosols purchased from airport shops/Duty Free in the security restricted areas (after the x-ray checkpoint) of the terminal on the day of travel will be screened.
Such items must be placed in approved security sealed, tamper-evident bags (STEBs), with receipts attached as proof of purchase.
The STEB will be provided at the shop at which the goods are bought.
Passengers must carry only small quantities of liquids, gels or aerosols items that they want to take into the aircraft cabin, using a small size, transparent and re-sealable plastic bag measuring approximately 20cm by 20cm.
The new rules cover liquids such as water, drinks, soups, syrups and other beverages, gels, (including hair and shower gels), pastes (including toothpaste), mascara, lip gloss, creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, sprays, liquids/solid mixture, contents of pressurized containers (including shaving foam and deodorants), aerosols and other items with a similar consistency.
Transit passengers' carry-on bags will be re-screened and inspected at the transfer security checkpoint.
Liquids, gels or aerosols purchased at originating airports not in STEBs or without any proof of purchase at airport shops/duty free shall be confiscated by security.
"The airport authority and airlines are working together closely to minimise the impact of the new rules to departing passengers," said Mr Ali.
"It is advisable for passengers to check-in as early as possible during the initial stages of implementation of the new regulations.
"Neither the airport nor airlines will accept any liability for items that have to be left behind or confiscated by security at check points as a result of failure to comply with the regulation."

I find this ironic really;

our airport scanning devices belongs to the 1970s, meanwhile we'll be getting space-age liquids security screening devices!!

One thing comes to my mind after reading that article; is all of that feasible?!

What we learn from it:

Liquids before September 30: not dangerous.
Liquids after September 30: a heavy threat to air security.

Wonder what the manufacturers do to the stuff at the end of next month. Should seriously consider wearing a helmet and protection gear when doing my grocery shopping from October onwards.

Seriously: this is a bad oke. Ban it now or allow it. Or wait until Europe made up it's mind and copy then again. There they are seriously considering to drop these restrictions....
