Police are stepping up their campaign against drivers using mobile phones, in the run-up to the introduction of stiff new penalties. The three-month "softly, softly" campaign is aimed at educating drivers and the police who patrol the roads and who will have to enforce the law. Drivers caught using their mobiles at the wheel can currently be fined only BD5, under a ministerial decree. But a new law is on the way with fines ranging from BD50 to BD500 and a possible six months in jail, depending on the circumstances.
It has been drawn up by the General Directorate of Traffic and parliament is expected to vote on it after the summer recess.
The current campaign includes distributing thousands of leaflets, with signboards on various highways, said Interior Ministry police media director Major Mohammed Bin Daina.

this might look scary, i mean 6 months in jail for a phone call , But if you're using a headset it doesn't matter what penalty is there as you'll have nothing to worry about
