Around 80 international competitors from Europe, Australia, Asia and the Americas will take part in the championships, brought to Bahrain by Intelnacom.
The WMC, which started in 1991, will be held for the first time in the Middle East and only second time outside the UK.
The championship tests the human brain's mnemonic skills based on 10 disciplines including historic dates, speed cards, names and faces.
The festival will also be hosting a series of relevant workshops, exhibitions and mind games as well as chess, soduko and Scrabble competitions, X-Box games and IQ testing that will be open to the public.
"We look forward to have three days of excitement and fun filled with presenters, exhibitors as well as various specialists from around the world," said Intelnacom chief executive officer Professor Dr Bernd Hoefer at a Press conference held yesterday at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain Conference Centre.
Guest speakers at the festival will include Mr Buzan and eight-time WMC champion Dominic O'Brien, who is also a Guinness Book record holder after successfully memorising 54 decks of playing cards (2,808 cards) with only a single sighting of each card.
"The festival will create a regional awareness about the WMC," he said.
"It will place Bahrain on top holding the first festival of its kind in the region and teach participants ways to enhance and improve the efficiency and effective use of their mental ability."
"We have opened a booth at Seef Mall for people who are interested in registering for the festival," said SJ Media Group general manager Abbas Kasim.
"We already received four participants from Bahrain and we are hoping to encourage a greater number of Bahrainis to join."

I ended up not going, but there was a huge opening ceremony yesterday under the patronage of Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa, National Guard Commander. Fellow member ba7rainy might have went to the event, but I am not sure Below is a press release:
