The event returns after a one-year gap with new organisers and a new layout. It is organised by future events and exhibitions management, Reflections Events and Exhibition Management and CTM events management. It was previously held under the name Bahrain Computer Shopping Festival when it was only organised by Reflections events and exhibition management. Compu-tech 2007 will be held under the theme be part of technology from september 20 to 24 from 6. 30pm to 12. 30 at night when the evenings are lively thanks to ramadan. Products on display will also be available for sale. The target audience is business, traders and the public. Organisers expect a turnout of around 17,000 visitors. This years event will not just be about shopping as it will be more knowledge-based, CTM event management chief executive officer Saeed Omar said at a press conference at Regency Intercontinental today. The idea is to promote the widespread use of information technology and communications in both business and domestic sectors and create direct interaction between suppliers and buyers of technology, he said. The logo of Compu-Tech, showing a little girl using her laptop, is meant to convey the message how friendly technology could be, he added. The participants will be made up of 50 per cent major it players, 30 per cent middle-sized companies and 20 per cent sponsors. Among the participants in the event will be the e-government with a 120 square metres stand. The total area of the exhibition will be 2,200 sq. Metres, omar said. This is the first time the e-government will be promoted at such an event, he said. Exhibitors include computer hardware and software companies, it training providers, e-solution companies, telecommunication companies, telephone card companies, telephone systems and mobile companies, suppliers of digital cameras and digital video cameras, home security solution companies and many others. Future plans for compu-tech involve holding a conference and creating a business-to-business medium besides the exhibition. Compu-tech 2007 is a totally restructured version of the former events aimed at regaining the confidence of both exhibitors and visitors, Omar said. The income generated is expected to be less than the cost of the event but we are looking at a long-term investment, he said. Entry ticket for the exhibition will be 500 fils. It will enable visitors to enter a raffle draw and take part in the live contests at the event. Sponsors of the event were requested to offer prizes and support rather than contribution financially.
