Bahrain is set to become the base for regional telecoms giant MTC Vodafone after its chief executive revealed the firm will move its headquarters here from Kuwait. Bahrain News Agency yesterday reported that MTC Vodafone chief executive Dr Ahmed Al Shatti told an Arabic newspaper the firm would transfer the headquarters for dealing with its 20 million subscribers in 21 countries to Bahrain in the first quarter of next year.
Among the reasons cited by Dr Al Shatti was what he called Bahrain's "ideal business climate" and its status as the financial centre of the Gulf region.
MTC Vodafone officials yesterday refused to comment, saying they would be making a formal announcement early next month.
